My first writeup in Linkedin Pulse

What do crafts and jewellery-making have in common? They are both about creating something skillfully with our hands.

In my school days, it was common to see students making trending crafts or jewellery as gifts or for their own keepsake. We had fun making them even though we were unaware of the techniques or knots used.

I had a soft spot for knots… and I still do. Making knots can be a complicated and intricate task, but it is widely used by crafters and jewellery designers as well as by sailors, mountaineers and fishermen.

Learning knotting can be either visual or auditory. I am a visual-learner. I learn by studying diagrams instead of by listening to instructions.  Among the things I have learnt is this: avoid using thin strings! When a mistake is done, thin strings make it difficult to untie. But the key to successful knotting is to keep practising till you are satisfied with the result.

My early foray into crafts has led me into creating wearable artwork. What started out as a childhood past time has now grown into a passion in jewellery-making.
